Muslim converts, how and why?

I was 20 and i dated a muslim man, and married him at 22, he didn't really practise Islam only not to eat pork and to stay pure for his wife. he told me about his religion and it just went in one ear and out the other, Until i met his family, i absolutly fell in love with the whole family, they where so opposite to mine. and i started talking to his sister to get answers about the religion. and the best advise she gave me was read; the Quran and find out for yourself, that is the only true guide since everyone has there owns opinions on the religion even if there both muslim. the reason we dont eat pork is; it is considered impure, many health riskd are ociated when you eat pork, gelatine ect.. pork contain dangerous worms (trichinosis) and germs. Since it is not possible at all times and places to get "healthier" pork, its consumpstion is prohibited. but pigs play an important role in cleaning the environment and becoming a food source for other animals.
