How meaningful is this quote?

I'm sure it means a great deal to firemen and other emergency workers, but what relevance does it have to everyone else. Don't get me wrong, most firemen are total heroes, especially the ones at the world trade center. But how often do people outside the emergency services get tossed into total chaos like that. It is very wise, to a fireman.
